640gal tank project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My wife had the baby a week ago and my wife decided to have her aunt come and stay at our house to help out.
the good thing about her aunt coming stay at our house is that when everybody is sleeping I can sneak into the garage and work on my tanks while the aunt keeps an ear out.
So far I have been able to finish the sump and set up the 100gal growout tank.
I was also able to do a couple of nic nac things on the 560 but I still have a long way to go as I am still dedicating the vast majority of my time to my wife and two kids.

nice tank congrats on the baby. I kinda liked the 2 tone look. like others have said once a little algae growth happened I think it would have smoothed out the harshness of it. I really liked the 3d effect it had on the tank. I also agree you should keep your eyes peeled for a branchier piece of driftwood. the top half of the tank is vacant. so have you decided on your stock list yet? you kinda had a idea earlier but unless I missed it you haven't settled yet on whats going in it.

keep it up this is a sweet tank

I am keeping my eyes open for driftwood but I had to sell my boat to get this tank so finding driftwood is going to be hard to do.
as far as my stocklist goes I have a wishlist going for central/ south americans but they are not popular in my area and finding sites that i can order from is hard to do because I want to get all of them at the same time so they can be raised together.
so far my wishlist is as follows
jaguar cichlid
festae
trimac
green terror
rtm
and some dithers

I am not dead set on any fish eccept the jag and festae.
I am also open to other suggestions if you have any ideas, im just trying to stay away from anything that requires a special diet.

Im going to try to get some pics later.

im in baton rouge, check out the link in my sig to the local club. But driftwood shouldn't be a problem if your willing to drive a few miles from home. There is a guy called the driftwood man who will most likely have a piece you want at a really cheap price. He is located in Pierre Part.

Here is the start of the filtration,

3 mag18's hidden in overflow box (dont worry there will be more than zip ties holding it).

the first of three filters in place and plumbed.

the second in place and plumbed.

the third in place and plumbed.

this one is going to be the one in front.
it will have 6 filtersocks with bio rings submerged.

The 2 filters in the back will be just like most of the wet/dry filters that you see, they will have a combined 630 scrubbies and 20 gallons of bio balls. they will have polyfill machanical on top the drip plates.

the mechanical filtration on all three filters are in there own containers that can be taken out for maintenence.
There will also be a better prefilter for all three pumps than what comes with them that i am in the process of building that will not restrict flow as much.

Congrats on the baby!

Nice to see that I am not one only person going with the over tank filter. It just made sense to me when I was planning my tank. Very little head loss.

Keep up the good work.

thanks,
I am looking at 32 inches of head loss instead of 6 foot of head loss that I would have with an under tank sump.
