75 Gallon Stocking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'll second the sajica suggestion. Great little fish. Mine have made excellent community cichlids unless they are breeding then watch out. Not quite as aggressive as convicts but still have plenty of attitude.

If you are considering bichirs, there are bichirs you can choose that are more active. Senegals and Polli bichirs are quite a bit more active than your average bichir. I keep both in a 75 gallon with a severum and some growout CA cichlids (temporary arrangement).

You've had some excellent advice so far. Good luck!

Thank you, I’m still figuring out if I want like a more peaceful Cichlid community with some other fish or If i go aggressive like Jack Dempsey or green terror.
As a beginner in this section of the hobby, maybe I should go like a community and some bottom dwellers/oddballs/predator fish. I’ll have some thoughts about it and i will post what i came up with.

So, after having many thoughts, I think I’ll decide against bigger cichlids like Red Devil, Green Terror etc.
I just think that the tank can’t handle their aggression so I’ll stick with species that will grow around 6 or 7 inches. I thought of the Salvini Cichlid, I heard that those are aggressive as a couple, but as a single specimen, they still rule the tank, but they’re not harassing the other fish anymore. Does anyone has experiences with Salvini cichlids and could say if there suitable for a Cichlid community?

The one salvini I kept for a limited time was aggressive in a 75 gallon tank without having a mate. If I were looking for a less aggressive "community" type cichlid I'd look at a group of thorichthys or some rainbow cichlids would make nice cichlids with other dithers and such. Sajica's or most of the amatitlania genus would also make a nice set up for a 75 gallon.

Honestly though, being a beginner I almost think having a single JD or something along those lines would be a bit easier instead of dealing with multiple cichlid's personalities and demands in the same tank.

With a salvini you run the risk of a community tank turning into a solo wet pet setup. Rainbows would be pretty cool. Firemouths being sand sifters dont seem to appreciate catfish in their turf. Blue acaras are still a good choice.

Maybe your right, I could do a single Cichlid and maybe something for the bottom, and if it goes well, I could try to add another Cichlid or something in that direction
