75 Gallon Stocking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So have to choose the complete stock at the beginning...
What a challenge, all cichlids are great, and I won’t have the chance to setup a second tank for the next ten years...

If you start them off as juveniles/growouts you can add them staggered. I definitely wouldn't add a JD and then later on down the road try to add some other cichlid. That's not going to end well.

Ok I think I’ll try the JD another time and will do a kind of peaceful community.
- Electric Blue Acara
- Sajica Cichlid
- Firemouth Cichlid
- Severum Cichlid
- maybe Some Geophagus species could also work
- bichir
- pleco
- pictus catfish
- Jaguar Catfish

What would you combine? Obviously I can’t do all of them even if I really like to...

I keep a severum in a 75 gallon. I've kept a breeding pair in a 75 gallon and it worked rather well but I wouldn't add other cichlids into a 75 with a pair. Right now I've got a male gold sev in a 75 with some growout central american heterospila and it's fine for now but eventually the severum will have to move.

If it were me, I'd consider doing a group of guianacara sp in a 75 with some tetra dithers, and some bottom dwelling catfish like pictus/hoplos/corydoras. If you think you'd rather go the central route, perhaps a growout group of sajicas with some livebearer dithers or tetra dithers. Eventually you'll probably end up with a male/female pair or perhaps 2 pair in a 75. If you wanted to try and combine multiple species of cichlids I'd probably try a Sajica and EB Acara as my first attempt.

Most of your fish choices are SA, seems you are leaning that way:
- Electric Blue Acara
- Severum Cichlid
- Geophagus
- pleco
- pictus catfish
- Jaguar Catfish

Maybe try to limit yourself to something like this:
- 2 Electric Blue Acara
- 1 Severum Cichlid
- 2-3 small plecos

I'd try to resist the urge to overstock unless your know you are overfiltering and plan for frequent water changes (which gets old fast, trust me).

You won't like the jaguar catfish, they generally hide all the time when you are awake. Better off with pictus.

While in college keep it simple. Fish don't have time to wait for water changes after exams.

Dont worry I got time all afternoon for the fish at my longest days I’m home at 4 pm it’s different here in Germany I guess
We got a completely different system here we are at one school till the final exams that are 13 years

What I want to say, don’t worry I got more time than anyone who works I don’t have to learn to much either
