in normal cases Steve i would say no to 2 asian aros but a tank 5ft deep they will be able to keep out of each others way and swim at diffrent levels

a word of advice dont buy banjar reds or green asian aros they are very agressive not far of a jardini

i would go for red tail golds great looking fish for good money £300-350

iif you want to see a full grown 8 year old red tail gold go to maidenhead aquatics St Albans the aro they have in the main tank was my old red tail gold they want crazy money for it £2k  i sold that fish for £300

Thanks for the advice, i will bare that in mind when the time comes to get a fish or two, would be lovely to keep more than one if possible.

its not that big to tell the truth prob about 20-22inch with a very deep body

the good thing with red tail golds is most of them are of good grade so no need to look at lots of diffrent fish before you buy

if you had 2 in a 5ft deep tank the the boss would swim at the top level and the other lower down

i cant see the pics of this build but i bet it looks great and cant wait to see it when the the pics are fixed on the forum

Maybe i'm jumping the gun a bit, but any suggestions on how best to light the tank? i was planning on two separate hoods, one for the tank and one for the filter, butting up to each other so when not opened they look as one. I am planning on keeping some plants, nothing much, just Java fern which i plan to wire to some wood running down from one back top corner to the middle section roughly and possibly some type of floating plants.

Would floating plants be a waste of time though, i want to give the water plenty of movement at all levels.

I would rather keep the lights incorporated into the hood rather than suspend them from the ceiling and have them on show, guessing just some boring old high wattage strip lights?

thanks in advance, mike

ha ha yes he is and so am i lol are you by any chance?

I think floating plants are a waste of time because if your stock is anything like mine the plastic plants get chewed and some end up floating anyway so dont buy any floaters especially for the job lol.

thought he was, been meaning to ask for ages, the T1KARMANN was just too much of a coincidence! pre '67?

Allow me to digress from fish for a mo then, what motor have you got steve? I haven't had an old vw for a few years now, really itching to get my hands on an oval or split panel/pick up but got too many things on the go. Imported a '59 semaphore split kombi from S. Africa about three years ago but had to sell her because had no where to keep it to get ALL the rust sorted. Nevermind, the seed was planted when i was 17 so i'm sure its only a matter of time :grinno:
