Aequidens metae and/or diadema

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is about 2 months old already, but a pic nonetheless. What I believe to be a male? A. metae.

Stunning aequidens metae, very nice job Echo

Thanks! I can't speak enough about the growth rate on these guys. Every time I turn around they seem to grow. I really wouldn't be surprised to see these guys hit 9-10 inches TL.... Which means I'll eventually have to re-arrange my stock list a bit... :/

They will normally get 4-6 inches, and anything beyond that I've heard is pretty rare.

What are you feeding them?

Feeding NLS finicky formula, NLS cichlid formula, New Era SA/CA formula, Xtreme Aquatics PeeWee, Northfin Krill gold/veggie/cichlid formula, and the occasional bloodworm, mysis shrimp cubes treat.

Earlier in this thread someone had mentioned Rapps saying that they could reach 8-10 inches... I'd say that right now their growth rate is indicitave of that. If they were going to top out at 4-6 inches (eye balling I'd say they are 4 inches already) I'd expect their growth to curb around 3-3 1/2 inches... but I guess we'll see!

I think the 8-10" comment was towards the aequidens diadema, but I'll double check with my friend who has a breeding pair of metae. Either way, that metae you posted is beautiful...if color comes out more with age, that fish will be stunning for years to come!

Ah, I see. That would make sense. I really actually don't want to have 4 ~10 inch aequidens in this tank, lol. My intent was for my G. Red heads to be the focus, but so far the metae have been stealing the show!

Very nice looking fish, Metae are among my favorite Aequidens species. They devlope great colors and are not very aggresive they work well with RH Taps IME.
