Aequidens metae and/or diadema

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The Aequidens came in with a touch of ich, so I won't be posting pics just yet. They do look pretty good though.

The Tahuantinsuyoa macanzatza look good too. They shredded their fins a bit during shipping. Anyone know how rough they are with conspecifics?

Ok, so it wasn't just me then lol. The diadema had some ich as well. The metae are freaking gorgeous, pics online don't do them justice.

Same here. Bit of ich, but nothing that some warm water and WC's wont fix.

The metae are simply awesome. Vibrant blues and stunning yellow.

Best of all, they already take pellets!

They are all wild caught, so I suppose it is to be expected. I am treating with some Coppersafe and once the ich is gone, I will treat with a double round of API General Cure to eliminate any possible parasites they might have.

I find pics really don't do Metae and sp. "JH" any justice what so ever. Diadema though are usually as plain as the pics make them out to be from what I've seen.

I am loving both my T. macantzatza and my A. sp. 'JH'. Absolutely gorgeous. Can't wait for the facial marking on the 'JH' to come in. The T. macs already have some nice iridescent facial makings, but they will stand out even more as they grow larger and their body color moves from a silver to a tan.

MY JH have a little Ich too now. I raised the temp and salted the water after a big water change.

Glad to hear everyone arrived safe and sound.

Their ich has spread fast. I noticed it this morning and it was pretty bad, but this evening I am seeing them covered in it. Hope this Coppersafe works quickly. I would absolutely hate to lose any of these guys.

The T. macs are also worse for ware compared with this morning. Hope they aren't beating the snot out of each other because I don't have the space to isolate each individual. :/

I've always had great success with CopperSafe. It will prevent the parasites from reproducing, but it won't stop the ones already in the water. Should start clearing up in a few days. I'm treating my new A. metae that way as well - they showed signs of ich a day after arrival. Nothing serious, and they look in great condition otherwise.

The 'JH' are colorful and eating well, so I am not too concerned. I have had good success with Coppersafe as well. :)

Elevated heat (85+) and salt will cure it, too, if you don't want to use meds. Every fish I've purchased since the weather cooled off has brought ich in with it. It's just the nature of stressed fish + cooler temperatures. When you're getting fish from LFS/wholesaler/online vendor who are working with hundreds (or thousands) of fish, it's almost guaranteed.

Seven days of heat and salt, followed by another seven days of just elevated heat, will be sure it's gone. I have a QT tank in my bedroom, safely away from all my other tanks, just for that reason. They even get their own nets, buckets, and hoses just to be safe.

So I am looking at sprucing up the permanent tanks of these guys with some driftwood and I found two great sites with cheap prices and I want to know which type would be better. Manzanita or Malaysian? From what I can gather, Malaysian is heavier and has more bulk to it, but Manzanita has more branches and is longer. What would be a more natural feel for both the T. macs and the 'JH'?
