Algae Eaters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Removing the sand will remove a big chunk of your heterotrophic bacteria that consumes organics. Reg garnet hasn't gotten any cheaper. You will have a white hazines to the water until the heterotrophic bacteria re-establishes itselft. Your water will also stink, so you might as remove chunks of it with each water change and do at least a 50% water change.
But sparky will be so sad to see he needs to rest on glass and not sand! Red garnet is still expensive. Maybe when Ive saved up, I’ll get it.

So. I started dosing rid-x in the first Few days of September. I think duanes duanes mentioned @RD dosed twice a month? Is this true, And we’re there any long-lasting complications?

I went to Aquarium Fish Depot and they suggested I get a water saturater. I can't remember exactly what it is called. It was 180 dollars, but my granda decided to give me an early birthday present. I talked to the owner, Sam, and he uses one on every single show tank they have. He has a 150 community planted and he used it on that to prevent algae growth. He said it took 7 days for the algae to stop growing. This prevents algae from growing but does not make the algae go away. I need to scrub the algae off manually, but after that, the algae will not grow. It is guaranteed this way. If it doesn't work within a month, I can bring it back. I found Rid-x a few weeks ago and dosed it, but this water thing does not work with fish medicine. I set this thing up this morning. I can get more information on it later, as the manual only provided information for how to set it up

What fish medicine are talking about?

Rid-x

The water sterilizer is called Twinstar Nano. Apparently it has great reviews, and it presents algae. I couldn’t remember the word: saturater or sterilizer. But that is exactly what it is.

Probably a uv sterilizer. It kills algae spores floating in the water.
