This is interesting. Is there denitrifying bacteria in the stagnant water removing nitrate? Is the tundra moss any different than the algae in its uptake of ammonia vs nitrate?

I have been mostly, chopping it up in a blender, then moss sandwhiching with plastic canvas. My main supply regrows in a tub, once it gets thick. The bottom dies, and turns anaerobic, the moss grows out of the water about a 1/2" . I tested it today out of curiosity .

The gallon jar, was set up today, for growing daphni. I just used the algea that was growing along with the moss.

I had my 30 gallon go to zero nitrate 2 winters ago ,when it was left alone for a few months. With the moss.

Update: ph is 8.20
Nitrates is less than 15ppm, "unchanged"
5 days since last water change at 15ppm
FEEDING 1 tsp daily.

The balls are in good circulation, evenly spaced, with light on all 4 sides.

This thing is going better, than I could have imagined.

Fingers crossed, as about half of mine fail. So I am unqualified to give any advice on how to.

This is earmarked for my top " log tank" if it survives. I want to try it in the experimental tank, with 30 leds, for a couple of weeks.

It's been one week, it's still working. Ya.
Nitrates are up very slightly. After 4 days since last water change.
