Algae scrubber as bio filter.

20171103_162549.jpg ammonia reached, 0.1 ppm with a feeding,20171104_061742.jpg
Droppd back with in 24 hours. The seachem gauge takes time to reset, also.
Waiting for some algea to take root on some more screens.
I have one 8" x 8" grown screen set up haphazardly, in haste. When ammonia spiked..
It' going to be very crude testing until I have more time to set things up properly. Trial and error.

I have been using, a small fluidised sand reactor, as I shuffled some fish around. I had about a dozen large cichilds in it, for a couple of weeks. Temporarily housed as I sorted fish between, my upstairs tanks.20171119_163233.jpgThe green spot in the foam cover, is the golf ball chamber, the purple chamber, gets a fast drip, as not to disrupt the daphnia.

It is not, on algea only just yet. Had other issues. Still waiting to build some more leds.20171119_163451.jpgsome custom liquid cooled 30 watt led, " opefully of the as advertised, 660nm x 435nm.
The one on the right, was a 640nm red, it wasted about 2 months of testing last year.

Tried both plant filtration and an algae scrubber. Like mentioned pothos is overrared almost a bed time story lol. May work for smalller comm type fish but not monsters

Scrubber failed for me but i still feel like this is plausible

20171130_052443.jpgThe new 10 watt chips are the right spectrum. So it' a good start. This scrubber is a water fall type.

This scrubber is an upflow, Here with about 3 days f growth, on a brand new screen. Powered with ten, 3watt leds.

I should cut some mirrors, to isolate the scrubber, I will if it works out. I have removed all the bio filtration. Except the fluidised algea balls.

All good.

I Have 10 three watt leds, so roughly 24 to 30 watts. This might change if ammonia spikes, I will add more watts.

9.3 square inches per ball x 10 balls = 93 square inches of aeration media. In addition to 240 square inchs of area exposed to led grow light, with out aeration.

Typical scrubbers are about 80 square of aeration screen.

Feeding a tsp. Of 45 % protein pellet. Twice per day.
