Altolamprologus Compressiceps infos & lots of help.

I visited my lfs last week, and found 4 fishes labeled as Altolamprologus Compressiceps. With a little research, and a few days debating with myself, I finally got them in a 29gal tank, they are 2",
They've been in my tank for almost a week, but NOT EATING.
My lfs fed them flake and pellet only, and I offered them the same, but no help.
I need all the help I could get from your kind MFK members, and thank you very much in advance.
 
dont worry they are fine. Keep offering them food every other day until they accept it. I had 2 male and female they got to about 9" each. I bought them at about 4" and they wouldnt eat properly for about 2 weeks. yours are much smaller and will probly take longer to eat properly.
They seem to get stressed very easily when being moved and they loose ALL colour. You know when they are settling in coz their colours will start to show and after a while will turn very striking, the males anyway.

What are u feeding yours, how long it took you to grow from 4" to 9", I will be happy even they grow to 7" - 8". Have u breed them yet, want to share your fun experience?
I might be looking to buy more after a while, where did u get them?
 
ok sorry i confused them with my eye biters which are also compressiceps but from malawi.Yours arent going to get as big as the eye biters, only about 6-7". They are more or less very similar fish though, but just from different lakes, so my previous answer still applies.

What to feed-

Cichlid gold pellets
Improvit if you can get it (all the vits they need)
shrimp brine
shrimp when they get larger
also try smelt when they are large enough as these are piscivores (fish eaters) in the wild.
small feeders when they are fully grown if you want to, may take a while to get them to eat live food, but just dont feed them and eventually they will eat the feeders.

Any one else has had this fish? Any other infos about feeding, breeding, where to get them..... Would like to hear the actual owner talking about it beside whats on google/yahoo search.

Its basically the same fish only mine grow larger , look SLIGHTLY different and are more aggressive because its a Malawi.
I know what im talking about, ive kept cichlids for years, why dont you try what i told you before dismissing it.:grinno:
 
no not the same... I have both comps and calvus... these are really sloooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww growers. They do eat fish, but small fry only. Mine eat pellets flake and love fresh brine. I would also suggest getting some caves or pots or large shells and rock work... with more hiding places they will feel safer and be out more, plus less stress means more eating... good luck get some pics... what type of comps are they?

Lol confused???

Altolamprologus Compressiceps, he already said. Youve just give him info and said you have them, but you dont know what they are.
They are the same characteristically (except agression and overall size), and with their requirements as Dimidiochromis Compressicep.
Just from the other lake in africa.:grinno:
 
First of all, I apologize for being not clear on the breed, my lfs labled it as Red Face, but I am sure they are Red Fin.
Another apology to RTR for making you feel like being dismissed.
However, I agree with Mike that they are not the same. Size wise Red Fin is a lot smaller, the breeding habbits are totally different after carefully looked at the link that was provided, and the look? You be the judge, but, I personally think they look 100% not the same.
 
no, they are not the same at all. Because the last part of the name is the same does not mean they are the same.

when naming fish the first part needs to be the same to be the same, not the last... biology...

I was asking since, I have gold head, and there are other types... hints the link was to the different types... locations...variations

welcome to the trouble of Rift lakes... sooooooooo many fish
