I trim it very lightly almost every week just to keep certain grasses in check... Then when the over all look starts to get a little too "wild" for my liking i really have a go at it...

DANG!!! that is one beautiful tank fat homer, kinda makes wanna start one myself :) anyways how deep dose the substrate need to be? cause i've seen some planted tanks with substrate like 4 inches deep...lol but yours didnt look too deep anyways great tank and i think its time for an update?

Regarding substrate, i think the normal recommended thickness is about 2" for good root growth, although mine at the thickest areas is probably around 3-4.5" as well for the sloped area...

I think most tanks with extremely thick substrates (4" +) could be specifically for shrimp? Since i remember before some shrimp experts telling me that what the pros in Japan do this because the shrimps can get extra nutrients from the soil, although not sure how true this really is?

But yeah, i need to upload the new pics from my camera up here soon, even though the tank hasnt changed much ;)

Thanks, and yeah its been a little while... works been a bit hectic and im now always traveling between the Hong Kong and China office so havent had much time to work on the tanks as much as i would...

Not to mention with such thick vegetation its hard to get clear pics with the macro lens coz the fish and shrimp never stay still :nilly:
