Anoxic filter build

Finally decided to build a biocanosis clarification basket per Dr Kevin Novaks design on youtube (see for details on the science behind the basket, basically anoxic filter) I built one big basket so far they advise removing all other bio media once its established so im going to get this 29gallon up and running and use it as the only means of filtration once its established before trying on the 500 gallon. I plan on having a few growouts and feeding on the heavier side once its established and monitor the water parameteres. I used a food safe basket some fly screen, clay based cat litter says zeolite clay on the bag its stayed solid under water. and laterite theres just over 2 cups in there (will add more in the next basket) Im interested to see how it pans out will post more when the tanks set up.

Have one running now in converted canister filter. Small pump with a small flow. Still haven’t seen the results yet. It been almost 2 months. But plan to wait. Best of luck on ur tank.

Nice patience is key i think. I plan on putting one in the sump I may even just make the second basket and do a side by side test of a stand alone in the 29gallon and as an extra in the 500. I wonder if dosing with iron would be beneficial he does say it takes alot of iron to get the bacteria started, bit undecided if i put enough laterite in.
 
What does the filter do ?

How do you have it positioned in the tank ?
