Anoxic filter build

Are you sure you're suppose to use zeolite? Zeolite absorbs ammonia and will release it when salt is introduced. Hope you don't salt your tank.
I have been thinking about that its the only clay based cat litter i could find that wouldnt break down in water. Im up in the air about the whole experiment now haha i could use the laterite to do a nice planted tank under my big one as a back up.

Based on Dr. Novak's video, I think he is using zeolite kitty litter. I have sacks of zeolite rocks and they do look similar. Zeolite is a natural mineral with porous structure to accommodate cations. These positive ions are rather loosely held and can readily be exchanged for others in a contact solution and this is exactly what he is trying to do in his reactor.

Give it a try. Just don't use salt or it will poison the tank. Zeolite is very chaulky so your system may end up with small quantities of zeolite that can't be easily removed.
