hey BIGS, where did you get your mj from? i noticed you were in WA and i am too. how big do these fish get?

I got mine off a member thats on perthcichlids and also this site. Be warned they are expensive. mines only about 4-5cms and cost $75. Where abouts in WA are you?

hey guys just found this thread ive got a jack ! hes now 45 cm we got him 1 & 1/2 years ago he was 5cm cost me 70 bux and ive kept fish for nearly 30 years and he has a personality like a dog (chases balls past the tank etc) he eats live hearing, squid or whiting (approx a kilo a week ) totaly physco ! i through a eyebiter cichlid(15cm) in after he was torturing my jar and he tore it a new 1 in seconds ! prob a fair bet for the most agro fish thread !:D hes become part of the fam ! nice photos and nice fish btw guys ill post some of our lil buga in the morning ! cheers chris.
p.s. - i only put 3 cups of salt to every 3rd water change (in a 1000 l tank) and they grow to 3 foot in the wild and 2 foot+ in captivity

Nice!!! I want to see some pics of this beast. I like the idea of using salt every couple water changes... probably mimics their natural salinity levels (in and out of salt water)

Maybe I should get another....

i saw 1 in de shop at around 1 foot for 395AU great fish but they kill everything else in the tank. i might get one soon

i seen a few wild ones at a lfs for 300 au and they had no personality at all so id be more inclined to stir up the local fish restockists, should be cheap to and they dont take long to mature either ....... ours put on 40cm in a year and a half ! i have a contact but still waiting for an answer though.

yep we go and catch them off a bridge in behind surfers paradise a fair bit though ive had no luck, a mate i go with caught 3 in week over 2ft and one was nearly 3 ft and looked awsome (gota remember to take the camera sorry)! i wouldnt like to put them in a tank but, as those ones i saw at the lfs werent happy campers at all ! - chris.

I have kept several MJ and they are a great TankBuster type fish. I currently have one with two 40cm Barra (Barramundi) and a super tough 50cm eeltail catfish (tandanus tandanus). He keeps them in a corner and is especially dominant when I throw some whole prawns in. He changes colour in a flash. All fish like a little salt in the water.

In one of my old shops, I had a 70-75cm size MJ in the display. Here is an old photo but its difficult to see the size. Some fish food containers on shelves in background.
