anyone keeping Syncrossus berdmorei

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm set on Loaches for my next tank and want a big single species group.

Not my thread, but you might want to look into kuhli loaches if you want a big group.
The number you can have for a given appropriate tank size is huge, especially compared to Botia. And nothing compares to the sight of a massive kuhli loach army.

I've kept the Syncrossus Helodes Tiger Loach in a group of six. They did well together & grow long & fat very quickly. They look very much like the solitary Berdmorei, but not quite as colorful.
The only trouble is the Helodes are completely off the aggression scale & should be kept in a species only tank.
When big enough the Helodes will attack even large aquarium Cichlids such as Rivulatus or Jack Dempsey's.
The Tigers relentlessly pick apart their prey.
The aggression became so bad that I had to get rid of the Helodes.
