Common Name(s): Wolf Cichlid
Temperature: 77-82F
pH: 6.5-8.0
General Information:
Besides the member of the genus Cichla, Parachromis Dovii is the largest of all the cichlids. On that note, they also need a very large aquarium. A single adualt male Dovii should be provided at least 180G. For the most part, they are grayish in color, females have a black lateral line the males usually lose with age and dominance. If properly cared for, Dovii's may possess a purple-blue iridescents, most prominant in males. Male Dovii's also have black flecked scales, and sometimes pearling around the gills and fins. The Dovii has a very aggressive nature, and is only recommended for experienced keepers, and never would be recommended for a community setting. This is a very rewarding species with much personality.
Aquarium Set Up:
P. Dovii is never a good inhabitant in a community setting, as they don't 'play nice'. The aquarium must be at least 180G and will be entirely claimed by even just one individual. This species is rather bulky and meaty, and requires a lot of swimming space. P. Dovii can be rather finicky with water quality, and regular 33% water changes should be made to keep it at it's full potential.
This thread is to be continued. I will add feeding and breeding habits to the Dovii's profile. Thank you for reading.
