I didnt know that Ted has osphronemus in there!
Yes, there are four of the Pink Giant Gourami, the largest about 18" or a bit more. All were donated when they became problems for their owners. Several have black spots, either a tattoo or a laser burn, but they are doing fine. They are very visible at night from the house located 75 feet away from the aquarium in the back yard. The two windows are 4 by 8 each, the 8,000-gallon aquarium measures inside 16 by 12 by 6 high.
They are not too hot for hot dogs but will eat most anything. I have been feeding hot dogs for about 9 years, the chicken, turkey type that do not leave a grease ring around the tub as the beef type do. The fish do well on them including the 4-1/2 Arapaima that ate them aggressively when young and the growth rate was excellent. I am not recommending hot dogs, only saying that I am having great success with them. They will cause your Nitrates, NO3 levels to increase faster than when feeding normal food.
One of these days, I will post an article showing how I constructed the aquarium entirely out of lumber and plywood held together with nails, screws and carriage bolts.
The entire fish inventory, as of 3-20-08, follows:
