I've got a 30g with a store bought plastic poster background of plants and coral

a 20g that I painted dark blue

and a 3-5g that I have my guppies in with no background.

what do you have or what are some cool alternative that you have either done or thought about? My girlfriend suggested wrapping paper but that wouldn't do well once I got it wet. I've also thought about a regular poster if I could find anything that would look cool.

I think I am going to paint the back of my new 60g black.

Get a piece of plexiglass the same size as the back of your aquarium.
Now mask off some lettering...MFK or whatever you like. and then Pain THAT side of the Plexiglass black.

Let it dry and then turn it over. Now paint the portion behind the masked lettering with transperiant model paint. Let that dry and then remove the masking. Now attach the thin plext to the back of the aquarium with a VERY thin bead of silicone.

Any light behind the aquarium will make the letters you chose to use...glow in whatever colors you selected. Done right this will look like underwater neon....

do you have any pictures to show what you've made like this? It sounds like a cool idea but I don't have anything I'd want to write.

I have one started with two pictures and a logo but it's a surprise for the board so I can't show it to you. Its 8 feet long by 30" tall however...

You can also use a favorite sticker if you like on the front after the paint and before you put it on the back of the tank you can even do some flames along the bottom if you want.

I was thinking about having my friend who is a really great artist paint me something ridiculous and completely abstract to fit perfectly across the back of my tank. I could take it and get it laminated depending on what he painted it on and just tape it right to the back of my tank.

a nice view of bikini bottom (spongebob) would be nice to lol

Use a piece of plexiglass like i said and have him paint it on that. then you can spray paint the back of the painting and the tape that on the aquarium.

pft. Never again am I going to buy that crap. I bought some to make my lid out of and can't cut it to for anything. It's too expensive for me to be messing up left and right.

Go to an arts and crafts store, pick up a piece of colored foil twice the size of your tank. What ever color you like, I use black. Take the foil and crunch it up into a ball. Then find the ends and pull it open until it covers the back. Tape it to the tank. It will look like rocks and what not. Give the tank some depth and texture.

I have a large mirror hanging behind my tank, althou there is a planted background on it at the moment. simply too much crap, wires and mess behind the fishtank for it to look good with a mirror backing it.
I really like your idea, wolf! might try it out
