I really like highlighting structural components of things and integrating them into the final aesthetic. The black is awesome and I wish there were more tanks like this to look at. Love your tank BTW.

It depends, on cheaper tanks where the edges aren't beveled or polished I'd go with clear since it can hide these imperfections. I saw a aqueon BF with rough edges with black silicone and it looked terrible, while the same oceanic tank with better glass looked much better at 40 percent more money.

On the higher end tanks I prefer black or museum edge.

black. looks good, doesnt show dirt and stuff, looks cleaner and is a great throw back to the old metal framed tanks

I was at the LFS the other day and I noticed that all the Perfecto (marineland) tanks that have black silicone only have the front and back edges done in back. the bottom is done in clear..I was surprised at this. seems a bit sloppy to me, but it must be cheaper to do.

I thought when you have a tank made with black silicone, the whole tank is done in black silicone (my Aqueon was), not just the parts you can see..

I guess there is no issues with the black bonding to the clear where the side seams meet the bottom seams.

I think the black is reminiscent of when tanks were framed in metal, drawing attention to the seams a little more than I'd like. Just my opinion tho.

That's a valid point. The entire appeal of black silicon is all about aesthetics and not much substance. Most people barely notice the difference. I have a 75 gal with black silicon and I can't see any signifcant difference. John Q. Public doesn't notice it. The hobbyist does. I almost think it's a fad that will pass. By the way, I like the OP's tank. I would like it if it were made of clear silicon, also. Either way, it's a very nice tank.
