As funny as this may sound 50K will turn out to be just enough for three adult arapiama. I've seen up to 8 do well together 200K, but even then there were some issues that arose.arapaimag said:What would you recommend in diet and future tank moves?
Moving them will be harder as they grow larger. I'd get them in the destination pool as soon as you can. Even though they may be less visually impressive, it's alot better for them to grow up in that type of situation. For moving a larger animal, I'd recommend a canvas stretcher at least two feet longer than the animal. When moving meduim to large arapaima (anything over 2 meters) I've always slowed them down with a drug dose. The trick is getting the animal in the stretcher while in the water, then lifting it up and out. Avoid using any type of net or mesh. They seem to react poorly to them. Nets tend to do more damage to the slime coat and scales than using a canvas or tarp to hold the animal. As far as acclimation, do several water changes in the current tank with water from the new location the day of the move. It's by far the easiest way to do it. I'll see if I can dig out some pictures of when we moved a 3 meter arapaima to show you what it looks like.
