Armadillo

They're all over where I live. I like the fact that they jump straight up when alarmed. I wait for them to walk under the fiberglass hull of my boat. Then, I clap my hands real hard and hear a resounding "THUNK" as they hit the hull.
Wouldn't think of keeping them. I've seen their trench and hole digging. Their enclosures would require concrete underlaying the soil to prevent them from tunneling out.

i know of a couple of people that have them, covering 2 species I think. Not sure where they got them, but I'm sure if you look hard enough you could find them.

Hello,
Just to dispel some rumors I saw on this thread!
Armadillos are NOT vicious! They make wonderful pets! I had one as a child & always wanted another. About a month ago my kids kept telling me they saw one everyday in the same place when they were on the school bus. So we went to look at that time of day & there he was. As someone wrote they DO move pretty slow & to make things easier they don't see very well, so if you are quite you have no problem. They do have long claws (so they can dig) so watch out for those!
This is a full grown male, they live in solitary conditions except at mating time so I did not need to worry about taking him from family.
Rocky only stayed in a cage for 1 day, thats how quickly they learn, by day 3 he was doin' his business in litter box only the rare accident. He ignores the dogs ,cat everything but my house plants! He has the run of the house & we expect to allow use of the pet door by spring. I could go on & on, he's great, but onory !!! He getts into everything!! He will take your blanket if hes cold & he licks your toes if you are typing to long! Check out Rocky below even his first bath pics (hope this doesn't emmbarrass him!)
