Arowana RTG Questions ???

starve your aro for a day or two then feed it what you want. If it doesn't take then i would feed a minimal amount of food that it's used to then starve it again and try feeding it what you want it to eat. You're have to make a couple attempt at it until it eats what you drop in there. Since it's still young don't starve it too long. This is how i trained mine.

10" is WAYYY beyond the size to even worry about starving your aro to death. Forget that complicated method. Just starve until your aro will take whatever you want to feed it. Forget this "feed a little, and then starve again" method, it slows everything down. Fastest and most direct way, don't feed anything other than the thing you want it to eat.

Black background for RTG brings out gold / blue colouration, blue background brings out shine and makes tank look bigger and more open.

As for lighting 6500k to 10000k white lights.
The 6000k end simulates overcast natural light, where as the 10000k end simulates full midday sunshine.

Anything more than 10000k shows more blue light which tends to show more shine at the expense of washing out the gold colour. Typically with an RTG people try to get more gold / blue colouring out of them, to contrast against their top darker scales and background.

hey is still very small , but looks great :D your aro is going to get really big!!! and the colours will look way better when you use a power-glo light it comes in a purple case , you will find that it really brings out the spectrum of colours you are looking for in your aro

If your talking about the Hagen Power-glo tubes, they are not the best tube to use with a dark background. They make everything bright in the tank but washes out the gold colouration. You are better off with something in the 6500k range. Something like Hagen life glo would be better. I have used both and prefer the later.

so at what size is it best to start pellet training? i dont want to stunt the growth of my baby 5" RTG

i really wanted an aro that eats pellets. and my RTG was eating it in LFS but stopped when i brought it home @4.5".

Do not starve small arowanas more than 1-2 days, however don't get the idea that its not a good idea. Arowanas are easier to train when they are younger. Once they get over 12"+, they will become very picky with what they eat.

How about a regular fluorescent T8 from home depot at 6500K?

Im more than comfortable to let a 5"er go without food for a week if i need to get it on pellets or shrimp. Cypher does have a point though, its risky sometimes especially when you don't know how well fed your fish is. In the end, its up to how comfortable you are.
