BTW, how much has this whole thing cost you? Someday i plan to do something like this, but bigger and with a glass viewing panel for arapaima and other large fish. So id like to get an idea of how much it'll be potentially
:) A lot of people are actually asking me how much it has cost me? i really dont mind sharing the info.. but at the same time comparing rates between india and the rest of the world would be tricky.. the thread that inspired me, "David's Red Arowana Pondarium" he is from malaysia and says it cost him around 6000 to 7000 USD(i hope i'm right) but for me it has cost me about 2500 USD, build, filters, paint, roof.. everything.. the other thing is we are in construction.. so the rates we pick up material and labour as such are much cheaper.. so you could say i cut back a certain margin on that.. cheers.. all the best with your build.. i def dream of pimas and rays but thats not for another 5 to 6 years..

well currently the largest thing i have is a 220g and i dont plan to build a massive tank for another 15 years or more, mainly because im only 15 lol. but soon i am going to build my first pond using an old pool liner from our aboveground pool, a pump that was used to pump lake water for something (not sure for what but it is very powerful and moves water so itll work lol), and a giant DIY filtration system. Itll basically be a piece of junk with fish, but not bad for a first pond i guess. I'm talking to TP&W (Texas Parks and Wildlife) to try and get a permit for a pima also. Should be about a $250 build I'm guessing.
but anyways, off topic.

2500 USD is great actually, i was expecting your build to be much more. But it'll add up to a futune once you have to start managing it I'm sure lol.

and i hate to keep asking questions, but what is your over-all stock list going to be again? I believe you mentioned it before but i dont remember it and itll take forever to find it in this massive thread, plus it may have changed by now

Good to start young :) 33 and i've just started.. When i started work on this project i didn't expect so much out of it.. jus thought it be a shack but over time and repeated revisions(and dreaming) this has come up.. i'm sure your build will be neat and you will get it right.. cheers..

about the stock list.. 4 silver Arowana, 1 RTC, 2 Red belly Pacu, 4 Oscars.. i'm wondering if i should put in the 6 Plecos I have.. I have a jaguar, 3 Red Devils, 6 Green Terror and 15 Silver dollars all growing out in another little pond/ tank.. probably when those are big enough will move them too..

maybe spilt the pond stock, for aggression and waste. Put 3 of the plecos in the tank because they are horrible waste producers. 1 Red devil because they normally arent a good mix with aros, half or all the silver dollars, 3 of the gt's, etc.
Plus things always look best in groups of either 3 or 5. Even numbers or any odd number over 5 just look funny

Ya..well anyway that has to wait till i'm satisfied with the test fish doing ok in there.. the reason i'm thinking about the plecos is my RTC.. the last time i introduced one into the aro / RTC tank.. the rtc kept chasing it and there were some frayed fins.. well lets see.. thats gonna take sometime anyway.. :)

Great.. there is a sump at the rear as egon has mentioned.. the only thing is i've not incorporated the filters into the sump.. i've used the second chamber in the sump to house the pumps and filters.. from the pumps water move to two canisters and return to the tank.
ah i c, but why take the harder route and not just arrange the filters(media) into the sump and let the canisters run alone as your secondary filteration?
i remember seeing your built-in sump on the early pic, perhaps you can take the complete sump set-up since it near its completion?
also i saw that you have a drainage system on your tank for water change?

:) the thing is i really had issues doin the math on flow rates and size of the pump chamber etc.. it went too high tech.. so i abandoned the idea of 3 or 4 chambers in the sump and went with two chambers..i've also been thinking of adding media into the second chamber in the sump.. will prob do it a little later.. tryin to find adequate trays or containers to hold the media.. mostly ceramic rings and more pot scrubbers.. thanks mate..

arent you in india?
i thought india is hotter than those most tropical region and you want a heater?
i was just thinking out loud and curious, looks good so far i cant wait for the pics when its ready
Dayak.. sorry i don't know how i missed this.. was goin through the thread again and came across your query.. india is actually sub tropical to tropical.. during the monsoon(our rainy season) the temp does drop a bit.. so i'm goin to pop in the heaters more of a precautionary measure.. i have other fish in cement ponds built into the ground without heating and they are fine through all this.. cheers..
