This might sound like an elementary option but have you tried Tetra Jumbo Krill? I find their krill to be the best and I can often get arowana/gar to take it from the surface even when they are being picky.
I've tried krill last week and it wasn't intrested, I'll try again tomorrow, thanks for the input.

i fed my aro only protein diet (worms/shrimps) for about 3 months now, mostly because it NEVER ate pellets. i thought of stuffing pellets into the shrimps it ate, however juvenile aros have small mouths and mine couldn't eat the whole thing. So i waited for it to grow a bit, after which i stuffed pellets into the shrimp and it ate the whole thing. My aro, eating only shrimps, worms and krills, went from 4 to 9 in 3 months without any health issues. I recently started feeding it pellets using the trick i mentioned.

If your pellets are small enough, then i suggest stuffing one or two in each cricket you feed, only if the aro can eat it. Otherwise you don't have to worry about your aro not eating pellets for 1 to 2 months. Wait until it grows a bit, then feed using this trick.
Thanks I'll consider giving the stuffing method a try in a month or so, although I'm seriously considering going an all live diet if I can, honestly my research suggested you had feed at least some pellets but people on here who obviously know far far more than me are saying you don't have to, which will be far more expensive for me but actually suits me better, just want the best for the fish.

If you are going to feed feeder fish, then i recommend properly quarantining them and treating them for parasites. Also avoid feeder goldfish, as they are high in thiaminase and unhealthy for your fish.

Wasn't going to feed feeder fish to be honest for the exact reasons you mentioned, not worth the risk, I was thinking more along the lines of, crickets, dubia roaches, mealworms, morio worms, etc...the only fish I've ever fed feeder fish was my big old Dovii as for some reason he refused to eat anything else in the later stages of his life, fortunately I had a 50g full of breeding convicts back then, that tanks long gone now, and if I was going to feed feeders i would only feed my own, that way you know their illness free and safe.
