sorry to bust in on the convo i just got a barra a couple of days ago do you guys know how fast these guys grow just trying to work out a time frame for how long i will be able to keep him for.

he should reach 50cm in about a year then after that youll be lucky to get much more growth then a normal fish. once they reach 70cm there generally femal and they hardly grow

does anyone know much about eels in the aquarium, im thinking about getting one but dont know how they would go with other fish. i caught one today but its nearly a metre long and as fat as a coke can, im keen to get a smaller one, like 40cms or so but i think they would eat small fish, like 5-10cms

Hi guys. What does everyone think about silver perch? Theres some at my lfs and I am thinking of getting one. Are they really aggressive?

No proof required, I can think of at least one person I know who has done it before. Unless it's a scientific article on how they did it, wouldn't mind having a read.

I was going through this thread and this caught my eye. DPIF has been trying to breed southern subspecies jungle perch at BIRC for some time led by Dr. Michael Hutchison so far they have been unsuccessful only got to day 23. The larvae are very small (much smaller than Australian Bass) and are very dfficult to feed. Kurt Hutchby biologist at GAWB (the only person who has produced Mangrove jacks) attempted jungle perch while at innisfail with no success at all due to the difficulty in sincronising male and female broodstock. BIRC has funding for 2009/2010 breeding season and will commence in november it is hoped this will be successful. Myself and I am sure the team led by Michael Hutchison and all the other groups of people who would like to see these fish restored to their former range would very much like to meet this person you know.

Regards Steve.
