Sorry mate missed this.
You love barred grunter I know Cam but I hate the Bs probably the most invasive non indiginous native in SEQ eventually they will be spread from their home range south to northern NSW. OOPS got sidetracked fresh only though they can tolerate quite high salinity.
Regs. Steve.

I see you have a passion for them :P.

Pretty sure Silver Grunter breed in saltwater? Because there range are from reefs to estuaries to freshwater, i would assume that they are primarily a Saltwater Brackish fish and breeds in saltwater brackish?

If thats the case the barred grunter probably couldnt breed with the silver grunter because the eggs from the barred would not survive the salinity? Unless the Silver Grunter was Female and spawned in Brackish?

Interesting, although i would assume that some markings from the Silver would be present on the barred X ?, and not just broken lines above the lateral line.

Hey Cam do you know username masone ? I would like to talk to him about Jungle perch. Re the hybrid barred grunter they are most likely cultured and initially hormone induced but they breed true naturaly thus far. The X is still unknown the origin is more than likely an aquaculturist .
