Wow I feel like such a nerd but that Z looks pretty amazing! Lol I actually read through the entire thread earlier and seen where someone recommended scrubbie as a media for u so wasn't sure. This was a really cool thread by the way!
No problems, I had way too many projects going at one time...

It really made it easy to grow out those Koi fast...
I believe it was 1000gph net that I ran over those SCRUBBIES in the BAKKI style showers. and was able to feed them 3 times a day without having a big problem. That was on 650 gallons on an 8' round pond 30" deep...

I've made 2 of these bakki showers using cut-straw as media. It worked quite well. Living in a tropical country sure is fun for fishkeeping. :D

Let's some pics. This thing has been going for ages.
sorry... you'll have to seek the archives for pix...KOI grow out project has been completed.
Bought the Koi as 4" fry, paid for the pond/filter/pump/food/meds/Koi net, and the electricity to run it all, and still made 8-10x my money back selling the 12-28" Koi back to a LFS fish girl that had it bad for Large KOI for her outdoor/backyard, sanctuary and body of water.
I'm talking heavy landscape and a beautiful freeform earthen lined pond that she swims with her Koi...
I was just looking to get back my money but after I took the Koi to her house, I basically could have asked any price and if she had it she'd have paid for it...

I wound up selling her the PVC frame and SCRUBBIES, she added the pump and the landscaping material so I could hide the showers behind a mini pump shed...At nite the backyard is lit with shadows cast on the house from in front of some plants and bushes, kinda looses the back of the house.
We had the whole back yard to ourselves and no neighbors to see her "Swim with the KOI"

Wow! excellent project and well presented information. My 72"X30"X30" tank is in for repair now and due back from the shop in about 10 days. It will live on my Carport which is more of a patio than car port. I was thinking of plumbing an overflow from the tank into the top of the shower and pump the return water to the tank from the bottom tray of the 'Shower". Any suggestions on how to plumb it up, what capacity return pump?etc.. Still in the 'Thinking' stage but I like the way this shower work.. Kinda like a vertical sump..
Great job
