Yes, its opinion. :)

Its easy for you, but I believe other substrates where the snake can burrow has a big impact on stress reduction. If you think about it, newspaper isnt really that much easier than just getting a paper towel to get the poop out... Plus newspaper just looks plain UGLY in my opinion.

However, I think paper towels are great for fresh hatchlings, or sick animals with problems associated with poo, because you would want to see it free of debris.

A healthy, hydrated snake can easily pass a small peice of aspen or something. The question is whether or not your snake IS healthy and hydrated. Just think about what they can pass in the wild.

Can I say doorknobs again?!

NO CEDAR! Just makin' sure y'all know. :D

You can't compare wild to captivity. In the wild, they die; in captivity, it is our responsibility to keep them alive.

Either way, nothing wrong with aspen as long you change it! I just related who posted this thread...

What? People fed their snakes in their enclosures for YEARS without any problems. Beside taking them out and placing them back into the cage may provoke unwanted feeding response or regurge.

Repti bark and reptile carpet are absolutely horrible substrates for all reptiles.

You should feed your snake in its cage.

Dude, you sound like some of the reptile keepers in the 70's.

EASE UP ON THE CAPS LOCK

well i use carefresh so they can burrow ,they do it of and on so i figured they like it,seems they move around more naturaly than when i used paper, its probably just personal preference.with soils, peatand such i would get mold or mites sometimes,i do here you so loud and clear Bloodyirish on the spot cleaning,i try to bribe my entire family into doin the litter box, cant beleive it when im scoopin that thing:ROFL:but if you dont have too many herp chores to begin with, its not so often if they just have a few snakes, care fresh is worth it,i know some of you on here have quite a collection and i understand that,i realy thined my stuff out because of this.isnt aspen realy dusty?if so i would worry about the snake inhaling that all the time.i havent used it forever cant remember.i noticed ppl are so quik to get into pissy arguments on here alot lately.its been bad for a few weeks, somethins changed,am i the only one noticing?anyways, good luck.

There are two types of aspen bedding. Shaved and shredded. Shredded is dusty and can get stuck in herp nostrils. Always go shaved.

Carefresh is great too, and it supresses the smell a little bit.

I still have no clue how reptile bark and reptile carpet caught on...

Commercialization! One word... learn it because it is one of the harsh realities of this hobby. Idiots thinking that crap is good for reptiles... a big company endorses it and before you know it all petcos and petsmarts use it.

Yeah, figures. Zoo Med smacks an iguana logo and everything and look what happens.

Don't you think pet stores would make MORE money by selling the RIGHT supplies and HEALTHY animals? *sigh*

I keep mine on aspen and feed in the cage but I lay newspaper overtop when feeding.
