Batman rays are the result of a special development during the embryonic growth of the disc.

Okay, seriously those rays have a common defect, the disc failed to fuse... a cut stingray looks NOTHING like that.

Hate to burst anyones bubble, but they do survive when mutilated. However disgusting I see it, it happens. Gr8 posted some pics of some in the stingray profile sticky, post # 17 towards bottom. If you notice they are fat and obviously eating.
