Bearded Dragon "Glass" Surfing?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with foto69man 100% hes right on point with everything.

How often do you take him out? How often do you handle him and give him baths? All these will help reduce the glass surfing.

Also if you give frequent baths he would likely reduce pooping in the enclosure. I give my girl a bath every 2-3 days for at least 15 minutes in warm water.

Give him some things to climb on and a way to get closer to the heat lamp but at a safe enough distance that it wont burn him.

This is my set up and my tank is only a standard 29 us gallon tank. So if your really worried about tank height dont its not that big of a deal. uploadfromtaptalk1426026805074.jpg

i forgot to mention block the view on three sides of the enclosure like how mine is painted and written on it will reduce stress if it is in a high traffic area of your home also run a dehumidifier if humidity is that much of an issue. i haveaopen 2 gallon betta tank in the same room and the heat from the lizard tank and fish tank makes the room hot and humid i just open the room window for a few hours it helps reduce the heat and humidity.

...it's a tub sort of container. The problem is that the sides are blocked, not that I've not blocked out the sides.

I don't think I will give him baths because like I said the humidity here is about 60-70%, and I manage to bring it down to 40-50% by heating the enclosure. Anymore baths to this regimen and I suspect I'll be inviting some RTI.

Your misreading what i said you are supposed to block the sides. Take some black bags or something to cover the back n sides. Also like i said run a dehumidifier in the room if humidity is that much of a problem.

Also if your not taking him out handling him n giving him baths then nothing you do will help. All this will help reduce glass surfing. All those will help i do these faithfully and my beardie never glass surfs. Giving bath is essential to thier health. You was saying that your having to clean his tail of poop. Witch can be potentially bad. Over exposure to it can make them sick. Giving baths also helps hydrate them especially if yours isnt like mine n drinks from her bowl

It seems like youre not willing to do what he needs. So if thats the case you probably need to rehome him. Thats why i rehomed mine. I couldnt give him the attention he needed.

Youre not really taking any of the advice given to you. Good luck.

No. You are not reading the thread, nor are you addressing the specific concerns that I have.

Doomiedie, you are not reading the thread at all.

I said that the sides are already blocked out. Unless you mean that I should obtain a new enclosure and then block out the sides.

You mention possible diseases arising from excessive contact with faecal matter. I told you I can't do baths because the humidity of the COUNTRY is 60-70%. So this becomes a question of potential respiratory infections vs whatever issues which you speak of. Does it take a lot of mental capacity to understand this? For that matter, what do you mean contact with faeces isn't good? Beyond the obvious tendency as a species to be hygienic, do you really know anything more substantial?

Your caresheets are written for Americans in America or perhaps the UK. Sorry to burst your little bubble but the world is bigger than America. I can't apply it wholesale without discretion because the environmental circumstances of the whole place are different.

Rachel, I think I've presented myself in a way that has left me open to options. According to foto69man, the bearded dragon gets perhaps nervous when it is unaware through means of sight of the things around him yes? Therefore I suggest an odd method which hasn't been addressed. Nor have I adamantly ruled out getting myself a tank, I simply said that it was a option which I would prefer not to take up. A dehumidifier is a good option, I will look for one.

I am working on the handling. He's quite cranky so I have to go slow. Haven't mentioned it before. Can't pick him up quite as yet.

X10,000.

This is my thrid beardie unfortunately i lost the first two due to not knowing how to properly care for my beardie. I spent alot of time studying them before i got another one.

All the things i told u i actually learned on google and it helped 100%. That country wide thing doesnt really matter. It's winter right now and humidity is still 69% so like i said humidity isnt a huge issue if you know how to deal with it. uploadfromtaptalk1426094366792.jpg

Honestly im not going to give any more advice. Do your research man look up youtube videos and google care about them.

Good luck

Like I said, I don't think you are reading what I've written. If it isn't applicable to me, for instance, when you tell me to block out the three tank sides when it isn't physically possible because they're already blocked out. You're not answering my questions, it will be of no help. Thank you for your attempts anyway.

I also think it's quite ridiculous for you to say I'm not taking advice. If you can find such resistance equal to your rigidity in applying to the scenario, show it.
