This is so informative. I am just getting back in to fish keeping after a 10 year hiatus. A lot has changed and I have always dreamed of having a saltwater setup. I'm planning on going at least 180g. I am in the middle of a basement remodel so I am able to build the aquarium in to the wall with access from behind. Any suggestions for a saltwater virgin would be much appreciated!

The Asian Market 30 minutes frmo my house sells lucky bamboo that is about 18 inches tall so it can easily have its leaves sticking out the top of my refugium. These things don't need much light so theyre perfect for my refugium you guys should try it out. I'm not sure if it does much though so I wouldn't blow off too much money on it that you could spend on something like bio balls
Not familiar wit "lucky Bamboo" Any chance of a snap shot or link?

Wow theres a lot of info there. ive got a neat setup, and im wondering if my filtration setup is adequate. ive got a 125G, with 3 Green terrors in it. For filtration, Im running two cannisters, and a 110 Aquaclear. My cannisters are, 1 rena Xp filstar 4, packed with 3 mech sponges, in 1 tray, bioSTARS, and ceramic rings in the one above it, 1 bioCHEMZORB pouch in the next, then finally active carbon. My second cannister is an eheim pro 3 ultra g 160, came loaded with media already, and its new to me. Its packed with two baskets eheim mech, and 2 baskets of substrate. then a white pad, and finally a blue pad. I have no idea how to clean or maintain this filter, or if the included substrate is all i need. I also have an aquaclear 110 hangiong on the back. any suggestions?

I ran a 180 salt system for years and the best advice I got was to run a sump. A little more tricky to setup, but the advantages far outway the disadvantages. More water, space and lots more room for system growth without having to see any additional equiptment. Check out the forums over at reefcentral to see some systems.... good luck
