Does anyone else use crushed volcanic rock as a media? I've been told its just as good as the ceramic rings and is cheap as hell here in Aus.
A lot of people use it as a substitute for bio-rings, try it out.

Guys will a internal filter ( the one which has a powerhead) with sponge as a media suffice as a filter for a 4ft arowana tank ?
depends on how many aros you are keeping. if only one then also you should add another one just to start with. it would be best if you use an external cannister filter to be on the safer side. good luck.

So far none of my scrubbies have mold, but if you don't have good mechanical filtration before them, they end up collecting a lot of poop and they're hard to clean...but cheap to replace, so it all evens out. Just don't replace them all at once.

Quick question: would japanese mats ideal to be used in cannister filter? I have fluval fx5. I am planning on combining substrat pro and this japanese mat. (can't afford to fill the whole 6 liter bio media chamber with substrat pro) If they are ideal, where or which chamber? Upper, middle bottom?

That will work well for the mechanical stage.

im still on the wall after reading all these posts. i hear pot scrubbers only use a fraction of the surface area from some people, and from others i hear that they are far better then bio balls.
