Best HOB Filter?

So, the ac 110 outmatches any hob filter? It is pretty pricey, but is it well worth it and will it be a good combination with my emp. 400?

I have both an Emp 400 and an AC70 and AC110 running on various tanks. I highly prefer the ACs (for the same reasons already listed - more media options, ease of use, etc). The AC110 is well worth the price (around here it ranges from $69 to $89 with media). It will pretty much go with any other HOB or canister you want. I run my AC110 with a Rena xP3 on a 55g.

But the hard part is persuading my brother to help me out $20 for the ac 110, because he was planing for an emp. 400. But, I'm going to get the ac 110 whether he likes it or not.

ac 110 easy to customize and no cartridges only advantage emps have over ac that ive found is that they will prime themselves easier if the power goes out

As mentioned, flexibility is a big part of the AC's appeal. They also have an excellent flow rate. The AC 110 is rated for 500 gph max flow! That's impressive for a HOB filter. They do a fantastic job keeping my tanks clean!

For those of you who have kept both ACs and Emperors - did you notice a difference in water polishing ability between these two filters?

Absolutely! I added an AC110 to my 75g that was already running an Emp 400. Within 24hrs the water was sparkling clear. I don't know for sure that it was because of the AC or just because of additional filtration in general.
