BEST Piranha for a Noob and WHY?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i also had tried to have alot of tank mates but nope that dont work. they eat every fish i had with them like a 10inch flowerhorn and a cat fish i think it was a plecko it had ruff fins about 12 inches and those are just some of the fish they ended up eating. so tank mates NOPE SORRY DUDE

Joe, mine pygos are around 4-5" (the piraya might be 5-6")in size now, think it's about time to start feeding only couple times a week? I've been feeding once a day for about a week or so now, before was twice a day when they were still small.
yeah, i'd start slowly getting them onto a more random schedule... start missing a day here and there and then slowly work your way up to every other day feedings, and so on... i wouldn't do an abrupt change tho, maybe work it out over a few weeks, maybe a month.

dude my advise would not to be puttin all that live plant **** in i made that mistake. if ur not to serouis about the fish then dont. cause u really have to keep up with the water changes like do twice a week. idf not the plants make like a white cloudy mess along with the p's and it takes a long time to get the tank clear. i had a nice tank with long grass and alot of real plant my tank is a 12g. and it was a pain to keep clean. espcally when they eat alot of live foods like mice and ****. now i have just 3 slate rockes and 2 fake plants in the middle and my tank looks bad ass. i have 5 red bellys about 8 inches and 2 caribes about 13 inchess. most of the time they dont get along.
no offense, but you give horrible advice... i'd really like to see this setup you keep on raving about.

live plants don't mess up your water, they actually help to keep it clean by removing nitrates and other chemicals. a planted tank with a decent amount of plants also doesn't even need gravel vacs to stay clean, only water changes, so your comments are way off base.

feeding live is not necessary and is generally frowned upon within the hobby, i'm not even going to get into feeding live mice... if that is the care that you give to your fish, i suggest you spend more time reading and less time giving out "advice" and bragging about your setup.

kinda funny when you hear "feed alot of live food like mice" and "pain to keep clean" in the same sentence. Like that's a surprise.

Howdy,

Yeah, I'm with Joe on this one.

so u guys are saying that if i have 3 2 inchers in a 55 i should add about 5 more and count on a few of them dying. 1 was just killed on me 2 days ago.

NOOOOOOOOOO!

I feel the reason so many hobbyists lose fish is a direct result of overcrowding. Each Pygo should have at least 25 gallons to himself IMHO. I would put at the max, 3 Reds in a 55 and no more than 4 in a 75 and that's pushing it.
I've never lost one Piranha [aside from an experiment] and I feel the promary reason is because I don't overcrowd. I've never even had any serious injuries. Give them plenty of space and good water conditions and you will NOT lose fish to cannibalism....

I have 6 Reds in a 220 gallon in which 2 pairs are spawning. I've kept Plecos and even a big Black Shark with absolutely no problem. I would NOT suggest anything in the tank while they're breeding however as the aggression level skyrockets during breeding.

Sorry guys,

But we just don't want MFK to run into any legal trouble :(

Thanks for understanding,

i wonder if african tiger fish are illegal in nevada? they look very nasty, but you would need a very large tank to keep one.
