you can use any size test, just adjust your drag accordingly. I wouldn't use less than 20, but it can handle it as long as your drag lets the fish take line on hard runs and not break you off.

i also have a cabelas pro guide IM6 rod would i be able to catch 20-30 pound stripers and catfish with it on my rapala jointed shad raps?i have a bleeding shad and a shad color varient for the lures or should i go with the ugly stick with the 20 pound test?

where you planning on fishing in the colorado river system? Also good luck finding 100 lb stripers, they stock 9-12" rainbow trout at Willow Beach, Lake Mojave every friday morning and the stripers there dont get anywhere near 100lbs.

Large catfish and large stripe bass - 7' Ugly Tiger Spinning at 12-30lbs. Or 8' Ugly Tiger Casting at 12-30lbs. Penn Slammer w/ Live Liner for spinning spooled with 65lbs braid, and Penn Torque Star Drag or Penn Fathom Star Drag for casting spooled with 65lbs braid. Sufix or PowerPro, can't go wrong with either one. My big fish gear in the West Coast freshwater(mainly a sturgeon set up - but would work superb for large catfish such as flats and blues)...
