Bichir skull! (Lapradei's teeth)

We should have someone photograph these 'teeth' before the bichir is a skeleton.

If they are indeed replacement teeth growing in to replace the others, I wonder if they are actually being used at all or even show through the flesh before they replace teeth on the jaw line?

I'm sitting on an interesting paper that is helping me learn the termsf rom skull bones, I should have more info by this weekend.

that's sick!! in a good way..

i am going to do that too when if my poly died..

hello,

great pics ... and a serious help to understand the jaw of a bichir. similar to big lizards (like those from komodo) the teeth of a bichir are hidden and sheltered under flesh - and all seems to be harmless. but seeing these pics i'm thinking about t.rex - i can't help!

greetings uwe

The replacement teeth actually doesn't show as the main front teeth look so small already when it still got the flesh on.

Yep they do look like a dinosaur's skull. Remind me of raptors.

UWE, its funny you should say that, because the first thing that came to mind when I saw the pictures in this thread was varanidae.
