Bichir with cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah if the fish are even close to being able to fit in their mouth then they may become dinner when the lights go out, even if they cant straight up swallow them i have seen them twist and jerk till they cut a fish in half, i threw in some dempsey juvies one time for food and my del grabbed one twice the width of his head and was swimming around with it until he finally got it small enough to swallow, but then he leaves a tiny severum juvie alone that he could easily swallow, so i guess you never know haha

I"ve kept numerous bichirs with cichlids that range from not very aggressive like thorichthys and cryptoheros up to the more aggressive types like midas, zonatus etc without any issue.

They go well if they can't eat each other... though most cichlids full size are ranging from 6 inches to 12 inches and the ornate bichir get's to 20 inches!!! So sooner or later get the bichir a new tank!! or else by by to your dempsey's!!!

haha ok thanks. how about the peacock bass? and the royal pleco with the bichirs? im just nervous haha i want my tank to be a success

a 125 is not large enough for a peacock bass of any type that i know of unless its like by itself or something, but yeah i think a royal pleco should be ok those are wood eaters right? i dont know that much about them but make sure you watch them because some plecos will suck on their slime coat and then make them susceptible to disease, so you just have to closely watch and make sure he isnt sucking on them, i have a sailfin in with my delhezi and they totally ignore each other, but my sailfin is very well fed, if he wasnt then i might have to worry about it going on the delhezi

oh ok then yeah same thing applies to them as with the cichlids, just as long as they arent to large to eat them or too small to be eaten then they should pretty much ignore each other, just keep an eye on the pleco (and like i said before i dont even know if royals are known for doing that so it may not even be an issue)
