Started eating shrimp yesterday without having to starve them. I started thawing the shrimp in the blackworm holding container and feeding them chopped shrimp. Along with still foraging they have eaten one 25-30ct shrimp chopped each of the last two days split amongst the three of them. Still a pretty shy when the lights come on, but they are getting fat and starting to calm down a lot. I have a tigrinis waiting to be moved in with them when they are nice and settled in, should be some time next week at this rate.

Thanks for all your help.

I have a culture of red wigglers in a rubbermaid in my basement. I feed them veggie waste from the kitchen... Neither the colony (probably 2-3,000 worms) or the worms themselves have any noticeable odor (unless I feed them onions or something smelly). If they stink, my wife wouldn't allow them in the house :)

I feed red wigglers to all kinds of cichlids and catfish - both whole and torn up - and have yet to find one that doesn't eat them with gusto.

Almost everyone (99.99%) feed raw shrimp, not cooked. As it decreases nutritional value.

I like feeding "earthworms" because there is a HUGE decrease it chances of passing waterborne diseases onto the ray. Plus you can enhance the earthworms nutritional value by feeding it carrots and other high quality vegetables.

the advantages for me are cost (red wigglers are basically free once you get your culture going), ease of storage / culture and safety.

I've yet to find a fish that doesn't like red wigglers. I feed probably hundreds per week to a wide array of fish...

sorry to interrupt, but does anyone have a pic of what a predatory leech in a blackworm grouping looks like? i haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary in my batches, but better to know what to look for.

i have been feeding mine red wigglers (trout worms) as well, and my 2 retics have no problem following them as they sink and pouncing on them as soon as they hit the sand. of course, i cut them up into 3rds as my rays are only 4-4.5 inches in disc size. i haven't noticed any smell though.
