Looks like infection trying to burst to me. Like a pimple. Males will get a steeper head (more vertical) than females but not a nuchal hump. That white spot is either infection coming out or an injury. Or a tumor.

Just sayin'.
We'll see. It started as a hump similar to the Google picture. Started about a month ago. He seems fine. I noticed the mark. I'll report back if anything happens.

If its growing like that I'd definitely be concerned.
I'm not gonna trip on it. Luther got huge humps at times. I'm not medicating. I'm not operating. Wait and see....

Try laying the fish on a wet towel and see how that area feels. if it's soft or hard. That might give some clue as to what's going on.

Not sure what it is. When it started it really looked like a nuchal hump but then a lot of swelling/ bulging at right eye area occurred.
Only thing I can think of is some genetic aberration causing this apparent "hump" edema, Popeye or a parasite disease.
Have doubts about a parasite disease because nothing new has been introduced into the tank in a year.
I have administered Kanaplex treatment (for Popeye) (1 week). The acara is acting normally and eats well. The bulging hasn't gotten worse.
All fish acting normally in the tank. Yesterday silver dollars were spawning. Tetras and acara were eating the eggs.
At this point just monitoring.
