A proper town? I think there are 7000 people just at the university 5 miles down the road.

At 90,000 people, Clovis is so small (by comparison) that most people in California don’t even know that it exists.

Even our congressman doesn’t bother to stop here.

Well, that's the difference between California and Manitoba. The capitol and largest city of this province is Winnipeg, population less than 850,000. There are only five other towns in the entire province with more than 9000 people in them; that's a province with an area more than 50% larger than that of California.

By comparison, I was born and raised just outside an Ontario city with a population just over 225,000...lived for awhile in Toronto, with a population of well over 6,000,000...and gave a huge sigh of relief when I moved back out to the country almost 3 decades ago. I did a round-trip commute of 250km daily, 5 days per week, for over a decade...and considered it well worthwhile in order to avoid living in the city.

Maybe when my wife and I get older we will move back into a town...maybe...but it won't be a big one...:)

Most of my perception of the peoples of canada is based on the comedy series Letterkenny. Im guessing these are good examples of "degens from up country".

My little town is probably better described as a real-life Dog River...except much smaller...

There's no Corner Gas...and there's really only one actual corner...:)

As you look towards the future, you may consider moving back to a town as you and your wife get older, but it is unlikely to be a large one. The preference for a smaller town aligns with your desire for a quieter and more relaxed lifestyle. Each person has their own preferences when it comes to where they choose to live, and it's important to find a place that suits your needs and provides the desired quality of life.
