Im having trouble adding more pictures but will shortly. My salinity is high 1.019 to 1.020. I started with young fish and low salinity, raising the level over time as they grew. Never have any issues.

I went snorkeling at Xel Ha near Talum Mexico. It is an amazing snorkeling experience starting in a mangrove river along surfacing underground rivers and an inlet bay. The water had to have been brackish - many cichlids in the River - More marine in the bay. This is not my video but a pretty good example.

I use regular tap water, a de chlorinator like aquasafe and instant ocean sea salt. I don't bother with RO water that I use in my reef. Mix the sea salt at about 1.5 cups per 5 gallons (half dose).

Sorry - hydrometers are cheap. A flat plastic "jar" with a needle that measures salt content. Pick them up at any LFS for a few bucks.
