You must start with quality fish to produce quality fish, that is the first rule.

If your breeding for fun, that is great, but to produce the masterpieces, one of your fishes should be a masterpiece to start with.

Do not breed two low quality fh's and expect a masterpiece.

Spend the money and get yourself a nice female or male, and take it from there.
true all the way,im about to part with a few fish myself (giving to friends , selling some of the nicer grow outs)to get a quality female. not to be mean but what do you all thinik of culling while were on the subject of breeding?

pimp! is that you on the toilet in ur avatar?

ur first pair is similar to the ones im breeding now, as in the same kind of species... check them out

good luck...

-----------

this isnt the pair i wanted to breed but it just happened to work out for these two so just let it roll
i know they arent the best looking but the female has a father witha massive kok (remember the pic i posted in the other forum?)

and the male here should have a bigger kok (tho not massivee) he's a bit timid right now as i put the tank near a door in my shop.

well, see what happens

Folks,
?
any advice to keep the pair happy while breeding?

The pair I posted wasnt the best pair, but still dissappointed to see that the male ate the eggs and beat up the female.

Also, to let you know of something really extraordinary - The same case happened with the 1st pair i posted.

The female's colour went really messed up, but with time, it looks like its fading into an ALBINO! incredible, it's looking quite good.

update soon,

more pics everyone, the quality ones!:naughty:

That is right reverse, sound advice

Here in Hong kong, you can buy fhs at 2 inches with massive koks, massively improportionalbly huge for their size.

I heard they pump the fish with drugs in thailand, which impairs the health.

Ive been thinking of spending on a 2" male "masterpiece" and growing it, and then breed it with my very pearly female masterpiece,

Do you think some of the offspring may have the great kok at 2-3" just like the one I could buy?

I must take some photos and post up for all to see.

hope you guys update too...

in teh end.... none of my best flowerhorns bred... teh ones i posted up pics of... well, the male started beating the hell out of the female, then the female started TURNING ALBINO. first looking terrible and patchy then end result looking suprisingly nice. see in the pics herewith.

what pisses me off is that all my other cichlids bred, convicts, jewels...

so now its summer in hong kong and its well tropical so i just dumped most of the fh into the pond with the koi.

ok enjoy

and can anyone tell me why ive had the female in the last pic for months on end and it's not laid eggs? i guess its prob a male but its got the spot on the dorsal fin and looks pretty much like a female
