awesome project....:headbang2

Looks Gnarly.....IS it possible to have a pond heater for that?
You know, like heated pools.......anyhow, that would be awesome as well and give you a better variety of fish.....Also what are you going to go with....fish wise? hmmmm.....something that size......maybe a mermaid?:D

Canada eh? I would stock it with asian arowana's and breed.....Then you can quit you regular job and sell asian aro's

Aros?, thats what the garage will be for my friend, as for the pond it will be koi only... plane, maybe... but i like koi and it would be something nice to pass down to kids, koi if properly maintained can easly outlive you..., i havent seen many mermaids at the pond supply stores but I'll keep an eye out for a cute one...

a heater would mot work in a 10000+gallon pond, the heat exchange on that much surface area would be killer on my gas bill, electric is compleatly out of the question..., although it would be nice to import some X-backs, greens and super reds breed them and make a killer. I think i'll just keep my dayjob though as i cant even breed cichlids :irked: .

Since im going deaper then 4 feet i wont need a heater for it(for wintering reasons) but maybe I'll add some other fish for the summer and take them out for the winter, maybe a turtle? toss in some of my cichlids see how they like the space...

UPDATE!!!, the ground is still frozen... sometimes i dont like living in canaduh:grinno:

If you want to keep high quality koi a heater is a good idea.Just to keep the water near 50F in winter and consistant in the spring and fall. The better quality koi are the more fragil they are.Its cheaper to heat them then it is to replace them. There are several gas koi pond heaters on the market and they work well. But you will need to cover the pond each winter. I put one one on my 17,000 gallon koi pond and I'd say its worth doing

email sent, All those are what im looking for esp. the Ogon's, snakes, Shubunkin, and butterflies depending on price im sure we can come to a agreement ;) ... also keep in mind that no fish will touch my pond untill its done and "nature" fills it... Id rather that then the hard water we have here in mississauga.

first off thats one sexy koi... ;)

it all depends, it might just be easyer to cover the pond with a 2"insulating foam over winter or construct a "grean house" type thing for it, i dont mind spending a grand over winter to keep several tens of hundids worth of fish from dieing but i rather not if I dont have to. Our winter was quite mild and most are, with tha garage and the over head "Pagoda Arbor" in place there will be little wind chill and with the arbor in place this might make it easyer to get a construction inplace for heating or blocking cold winds that can freeze it over. But I belive that this would be largly un-nessisary and "might be" a waste of money, in a pond of this size and depth the fish should be fine. I know that koi only get huge in "streem fed" ponds and not filtered ones but its not like that are splashing in a puddle either :) .

waterboy when im done with mine it will be a bit bigger then 13000 gallon and therefor about the size of yours(give or taks a few thousand gallons) and Beavercreek Ohio is a mear stones throw from me(400mi) there for we have simmilar winters, can you please tell me how much does it cost to heat your pond?, please pm me if you dont feel comfortable posting it here although it would give everyone a good idea of how much or little it would cost.

Im a ferm beliver in giving people realistic adeas on how much thins cost and letting them make up there minds, for example my little project took a hefty chunk out of my pocket which i posted earlyer. and when all is said and dont it would have costed $10,000:screwy::nilly: to finish, almost $1 per gallon, like a fish tank.

If it where me(and it might be) i would make my own heater, get a small stainless bbq burner(like one off of a camping stove) get about 50-100 feet of flexable 3/4-1" tubing set the burner on the bottom of the the contraption and coil the pipe into a tight cone progressivly getting smaller and vent it out the top of the garage, and have it run by a thermostat(controlling a solenoid to turn the gas on and a electrical spark starter) in the pond and circulated by a external 1000gph pump, plumbed to right under the water fall for maximum defiusion.

but im a DIY nut and thats just me:screwy:
