Hi there,

Amazing tank! Any chance I could speak with you via the phone or email? I'm currently working on a documentary series called Monster Fish and would like to know if you have any Wallago species kept in this home built aquarium of yours-

Yes do I keep 2 Wallago Leeri in my big tank.

I have owned the female since the beginning of January 1991. The male I have owned since January 1999. The female has been very belligerent since she reached about the 2 foot range. When she was smaller she was fine with most fish she could not eat. The past 3 years she has killed some really nice fish and she just gave the male a working over this past week.

I received an email from Heinz Machacek, the editor World Records Freshwater Fishing.
Heinz has an english version of his German website listing the verified record sizes of fish caught by fishing rod. If you go to his website you will find many of the fish we keep in the hobby and in some cases be very surprised at the records either being bigger than expected or in many cases being smaller. It's a free website and you can click on his email to receive regular updates.

Dear Arapaimag,

it would be great if you can add the newsletter from 2008 (if you want).

Thank you in advance
Best regards
Heinz

Thanks for the info - is this a trait of the Wallago species, because it's what I've come across, when adult female Wallagos are placed in big tanks they tend to quickly finish off other fish. Where in Malaysia did you get the Wallago leeri? Also keen to know whereabouts in Malaysia is your giant aquarium? Great to show on tv. I'm also tying up some loose ends for Wallago species and their favoured spawning grounds in Msia, would love your input.

Could I please have your email? If not, contact me: huijia@infocusasia.com

Cheers,
hj

Heinz just sent me an update today with many new records over the past year. If you enjoy monster fish check it out and its free...........

Hello friends of fishing and ichthyology,

Enclosed please find the latest edition of our newsletter with the most exiting catches worldwide.

It would be great if you can forward the newsletter to other interested persons or publish a short article.

www.fishing-worldrecords.com is the most comprehensive database in the world concerning all-tackle freshwater records – where angler’s dreams come true:
· Species +5 kg in the database: 475
· Species with record catch photo: 273

The aim of this database is to improve information exchange between sport fishermen and scientists.
More precise and actual maximum size data for scientists and a guidance for angler in quest of “undiscovered” species in “undiscovered” waters.
And last but not least a documentation of historical unbelievable catches which should not to be forgotten.

Although the fish stocks decline worldwide due to poorer environmental conditions, it seems that the majority of the species still can reach their maximum size!
Updates April 2009 – July 2010
· record weights 90
· record lengths 78
· record ages 11
· record photos 89

Tight lines and greetings from AUSTRIA

Very much south..
Hi Arapaima, you could perhaps create a specific thread with this info and diiscussion.

I believe that a lot of guys would love it. Being inside your thread ( which awesomeness is not for debate ) I fear it might get hidden....

Thank You

Miguel
