Not sure what fish that is.

Is it in the family Pimelodidae? What is it's scientific name?

Its an Asian species. I had a Sperata Aor. i have read they can be aggressive but i have never seen this but mine never got very big. Although it is reported they get 5 ft.

Yes, The Indian shovelnose.

I have had a Sperata but did not know it's correct genus. Like yours it did not get very big nor was I able to keep it alive very long. Mine was not the species Aor but one of the other Sperata species of which I know not.

It was purchased in 1996 from That Fish Place in Lancaster Pennsylvania and died in 2002. They called it an Indian black spot shovelnose.

Do you or anyone else know the correct scientific name?

Mine was Sperata Aor. So it would have eventually got to 5ft, but i had to rehome at around 15 inches.

I think there is 3 species in the genus.

Sperata Acicularis
Sperata Aor
Sperata Seenghala

I have had several systems since I started the tank just over 16 years ago.

1. A oil fired swimming pool heater 1994 to 2000

2. A really big oil fired swimming pool heater (made for an olympic swimming pool) 2000 to 2002

3. An apartment building size oil fired water heater 2002 to 2006

4. A large gas Rinnai tankless hot water heater with a heat exchanger 2006 to 2010.
Just modified by adding 300 feet of 1" pex oxygen barrier tubing to make it more efficient than just the heat exchanger.
Here is a picture of the original heater. It's the grey object to the left of the door.
