Distichodus Sexfasciatus - how big is yours? do they get very aggresive when bigger?
I have 3 Distichodus sexfasciatus.

The one in the 52k is largest. It is 14 years old+ bought the first week of Jan 1997 at The Fish Place (Jake) in N. Tonawanda NY at 2" for $9.95. That's when they have their greatest colour. It was raised in a 180 to about 7" then moved to the 15,000 till July of 2009 when it was caught and measured before placing in the 52,000.

The larger one in the 15,000 was given to me by Bonnie and Clyde (Bill Gibbons) from Innerkipp in 2001. It was already 12" long when I got it and the colours were faded. In the past 10 years it has grown about 3" more to approx 15".

The smaller one was given to me by Bruce Owen of Acton in 2007 at 6". It had some colour still at that size but has now faded is 13" measured. It was raised in 180's till that size and then placed in the 15,000 during 2010.

None of the exhibit aggressive tendencies in the large tanks but are capable of being mean in tanks of 180g size

pics of an older female Amphilophus urophthalmus I owned and sometimes called the orange tiger and one of the few cichlids that will sometimes venture into pure marine/salt water.

This one I bought at 3" from Marine Resources (Sean Wilson) in Brampton, in the year 1992 for $2.50. She died in 2009. 17 years later. The pictures of her were taken by Bob Wilson of Toronto in March/April of 2007. After a few years in a 50 then a 180 she was placed in the 15,000 in 1997 and lived her last 12 years in that tank and was 10" long.

She was a very vicious fish in the 50 and the 180 killing a couple of other females. In the 15,000 she bred but none of her babies survived.

After she died the a. urophthalmus that is in the tank now was placed into it. It had been raised in a 180 prior.

Wow the Clown knifes are very impressive. i've never seen them so big!!
Thanks, but I have actually always been disappointed that mine where so small.

I've seen them at 36"tl and always wanted to raise mine that big but 28" is the max so far.
