I have seen pics of the Leptobarbus hoevenii in the 52k, how are the barbs now?
The Notopterus chitala have been very slow growers but very active hunters. They hate bright light so like my tank because most the time there is only one cfl 15 watt bulb lighting the viewing room and thus the tank. I estimate them to be 28 to 29" long. They were measured feb 7 2010 at around 27" and have seemed to have grown in the interim.
I only kept 2 hoevenii from the 15k when they were caught in 2009. Those two were moved to the big tank. Only one is still alive as the other passed away in 2010. The one that died was injured by the female Wallago twice trying to eat it.

I had problems with some of the units as I explained. I also had many units that work well. My disappointment stems more from the lack of responsibility of the Hagen company in not providing warranty at the purchase level. I'm happy for you that you have experienced no problems.

I have found most fish do enjoy lower light levels because the waters in nature that they live in are not brightly light. Fish feel safer in the dim lighting and don't like bright light in my tanks as well.

Yes they do....
I use ambient room lighting for all my non planted tanks and just use tank lights when feeding, breeding checking on health etc.
