Thanks for all the info so far, here are few more questions and I'm sure there will be more.
What's the flow rate, GPH, on your 3HP jaccuzzi pump?

What did your panes of glass weigh?

What type of silocone did you use? What is the size of the angle iron you used to conect the tubings? I am thinking of going with tubing all the way. Would it be possible for you to find out the thickness of the tubing you used?

I look forward to your update on the filtration system.

My tank will also be L shaped. The back dimensions will be 30ft. on the short section and 40ft. on the long section. The viewing width on the long section will be 28ft. and 16ft. on the short. The hight, water level, will be 11ft. and depth, front to back, will be 14ft. on the long side and 12ft. on the short section. I'm not sure when I'll start construction but I'll post it.

I am planning on putting in as many if not all the cichlids of Belize in here as well as Tarpon, and a few others. All wild caught local species.

Geez, build you some steps to go up to the windows where you feed the fish and you could go for a swim with them, heck I would, as long as there isn't anything brutal in there. You could go scuba diving just to siphon the gravel. Man than tank is so badass.

How did your Tarpon do in the mega tank? I have never kept a large specimen before and am concerned that they may predate smaler fish. Did you have a problem with this while you had yours?

The small fish survive and reproduce because:

they are very smart
they use the 28,000 lbs of lava rock to hide in
the big fish eat some but lose interest in chasing them all the time and catching so few.

The wallegos appear to be the most succesful because they ambush capture (They lie still like a rock and just open their mouth when the prey is in range.) They do will hunt when the lights are off and pick off pish that are in the 12" to 24" range at this time. (Lights are off only during a power failure occuring at night.)

I use a 600 lb sand filter. But after so many years it no longer can handle the bio load so I am upgrading the filtration:headbang2 in the next 2 months.

Hi arapaimag could you tell me the cientific name of the wallegos, i have been trying to find some info/pictures of them on the internet but no matches in google or yahoo :( Do you know any link where i can see them in order to khow how they look like?
Thank you in advance :)
