Hi Community.
This question may sound a little crazy but I totally have no clue. The question is " Can I put a couple of Piranha to my current Pacu tank" . There's only one Pacu in the tank rite now and I think he's kinda lonely, so that's why I decided to put some Piranhas as tankmates for him.
I don't know if it would work, are the piranhas gonna eat the Pacu later on or not ?
Thanks very much.

eventually, they could eat the pacu, or not. i've seen videos of them eating pacus, but ive seen them live together since there close to the same family. u can try it, jus dont be sad if ur pacu dissapears.

You didn't list the size of your tank. In a large enough tank, your Ps might stick to their own shoal (provided they're sufficiently fed) and the pacus will avoid getting too close to the shoal. Unfortunately, tanks that size exist mainly in public aquariums. In home-size tanks, the chances of losing pacus to the Ps is very likely.

why not just get a second pacu?

Thanks alot for your guys answers. ;)

The thing is I didn't buy that Pacu, (and I never tend to buy a Pacu before), the one I am keeping now. It's from my friend, he gave the Pacu to me few months ago since the Pacu was very small. He told me if I don't take the Pacu he will flush the fish to the toilet, so I didn't want to see that happen to the Pacu so I decided to keep the fish to save the fish's life.

For me Piranha is more interesting than the Pacu so that's why I want to buy a couple of Piranha. But if you guys said that they might eat the Pacu so I just won't buy Piranhas then. Since I have already saved the Pacu, I don't want anything happens to him.

Thanks again. ;)

Try it...my friend got some reds with his pacu...just fine...few fin nips but ok...don't hurt to try ...there are a million Pacu's out there ...

first we need to know tanks size. as red bellied pacus can reach over 2 feet in length easy, you'd need a really HUGE tank to keep them with piranhas, since you'd neeed a really big shoal of piranhas to keep them from eating the pacu. i'd say a 1,000G should be sufficient.

Lol, thanks again guys.
I am living in small place and I can't afford a big tank because I have no room for a big tank.
I wish I am rich like alots of people in here so I can get a monster tank like in my dream.
Anyway, I know there're lots of Pacus out there, but the Pacu I am keeping is special because first of all I saved his life, second, it makes me remember about my friend. That's all, simple but lots of deep meaning. So I don't want anything happen with that Pacu.
I am not going to buy another Pacu either because I don't want to keep anymore Pacu, as they can grow big and I don't have room for them later on.
Thanks again.

what size tank do you have him in? to take proper care of him you're going to need a tank of 300 gallons at the very least, and it's possible you would need to upgrade to something bigger. otherwise he will not be properly cared for and you should give him up to someone who can properly care for him.

 :WHOA: 300 gals for 1 Pacu ? :WHOA:

I am keeping him in a 55 gals now with a baby red tail catfish. And that's the maximum I can get for now because I have another 175 gals already and my place has no more room for another bigger tank.

I will keep him until he get big and then I will give it to the zoo or aquarium or something.
