Can i Stick Color Gel Sheet on my Aquarium Light

Hi Everyone,

I just want to know i have a 150 cm tank it has 2 LED Light fixed which is White and Blue in color. I wanted to know can i stick the Gel Sheet (Gelatin Paper) to the LED Light to make the Light color change to Red and other color?

Did anyone tried doing this before? and is it safe? I am just conscious if i stick the Gel Paper is there any chance of getting fire or any heating issue or damage to aquarium or light?

Because i am not looking out to change the LED Light as i do not want to spend on it. Any Trick to make the LED Light color change from White to Red? Pls suggest any tricks/hacks if Gel paper idea is no good.

You can use tinted Saran Wrap on the glass lids. I use green on the parrot tanks and it reduces algae and adds a nice tint. I roll it and put it on one side for shading.

Sure I'll take a pic later. Not much to it, I just tear off a sheet and roll it up and lay it on the glass. It stays in place pretty good. There are 'holiday edition' wraps. For x-mas they have green and red. For easter I think there's a purple/blue and yellow color. Its not sold year round. I got some surplus on Ebay for 68 cents a box.

Since i have two 150 Cm inbuilt Lights in Tank which is not that good and i do not wish to spend any money to buy new lights. It will be helpful FINWIN if you could pls share some pictures so we can also do the same way.

I tried it on some led flood lights before and it doesn't look right. Unless yours into the super colorful unnatural look of the tank

I usually just roll it up and scrunch it into long pieces. The more you use the greater the tint. You can also just wrap the glass lid like a package if you want. Since its food safe it's non toxic. Back in the day my Aunt used to use the crystal paint for backgrounds which gave a similar tint color. Here's a piece on Patch's tank. I leave some of the lid uncovered to give nice contrast. I deliberately block some of the led light with the black connector strip on the lid. It keeps the excessive brightness down during full daylight mode.

The effect gives a great feeling of depth you can see here. Also, the color of substrate and decorations will affect the amount of green tint. It does good job of reducing algae buildup too...Patch likes it because it keeps the leds from being too harsh which is a real problem with smaller tanks. I know I wouldn't want to stare up at a strobe light all day.
